As we all know the 2014 Winter Olympics had a rocky start. Some might even refer to it as “a huge joke known as the 2014 Winter Olympics”. I don’t even know where to begin with all the issues surrounding this year’s Olympics. The media had a field day with all the issues occurring in Sochi, Russia the first few days. Sochi, Russia was getting so much negative publicity for being an unfit host city. There were many social media accounts that went viral, mocking the 2014 Winter Olympics. One in particular that was trending on Twitter was called @SochiProblems. What I really don’t understand about the whole thing is what made people think that Sochi, Russia was prepared to host the Olympics seeing as though the city has been under construction for years. That also brings me to my next point; Sochi, Russia was selected to host the 2014 Winter Olympics back in 2007 giving them years to get the city together. So it looks like the International Olympic Committee made a bad call when selecting the host city.
Just a few things that went wrong…
- The Olympic torch’s flame kept going out
- The Sochi anti-LGBT
- Housing for guests still under construction
- “alleged” embezzling with Olympic funds
- Stray dogs running around
